Diversity patterns and distribution of anurans in Amapá State, Northern Brazil
Among northern Brazilian states, Amapá is the only one with compiled literature on its anuran fauna, although several regions remain undersampled. Here, we present an updated checklist of anurans from Amapá based on published data and specimens deposited in the collection of the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research of Amapá. We recorded 123 anuran species, including 16 new state records. Of these, 67% are endemic to the Amazon biome, 15% occur in both the Amazon and Cerrado, and the remainder have broad distributions across Brazilian biomes. Adelophryne amapaensis and Ameerega pulchripecta are endemic to Amapá. Three species (Anomaloglossus degranvillei, Dendropsophus amicorum and Scinax jolyi) are currently classified as threatened. Importantly, threatened species occur within Conservation Units, indicating some level of protection. This study expands knowledge of Amapá’s anuran diversity by updating species records, identifying endemics and threatened taxa, and highlighting areas of high diversity, thereby helping to reduce existing knowledge gaps.
