COGNITIVE STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE ACQUISITION AND RETENTION OF MEDICAL ENGLISH VOCABULARY
The thesis examines cognitive strategies that support the acquisition and long-term retention of medical English vocabulary by students of medical higher education institutions. Drawing on corpus-based research on medical word lists and on experimental data from cognitive psychology, it compares retrieval practice, distributed practice, morphological analysis of Greek and Latin term elements, contextual elaboration and mnemonic techniques, and proposes an integrated instructional cycle for ESP classes.
