Analysis of Rock Climbing Sport in East Tanjung Jabung Regency
Rock climbing is a sport with significant achievement potential, yet it continues to face numerous challenges in athlete development. This study aims to analyze the management of athlete development and achievement in rock climbing at FPTI (Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation) of East Tanjung Jabung Regency. A qualitative descriptive research approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Ten informants were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of five administrators, one coach, and four athletes. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and data collection triangulation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. SWOT analysis was applied to identify internal and external factors influencing athlete development. Results indicate that FPTI East Tanjung Jabung Regency has made measurable progress in athlete performance, evidenced by medals at regional and provincial championships. However, the organization faces critical challenges including limited licensed coaches, inadequate facilities (absence of a boulder wall), constrained funding, low community interest in the sport, and coordination difficulties among administrators. The SWOT matrix reveals that the organization possesses more external opportunities than threats, and its internal strengths and weaknesses are relatively balanced. Strategic recommendations include human resource development through coach training and fun climbing events, infrastructure improvement, stronger collaboration with government bodies and private sponsors, individualized training programs, and leveraging digital communication tools for better internal coordination.
