One anastomosis mini gastric bypass in patients with severe obesity

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the results of one anastomosis mini-gastric bypass in surgical treatment of severe obesity. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study presents the results of a 3-year follow-up of 17 patients who underwent mini-gastric bypass surgery. Their age ranged from 27 to 60 years (median 47.0). Preoperative BMI was 64.28 kg/m² (range 60.0-83.66). The follow-up examinations were conducted at 1 week, 3, 6, 12, 24 and 36 months after surgery. We assessed anthropometric data (BMI, excess weight loss - EWL, total weight loss - TWL), glycose metabolism parameters, lipid profile, blood pressure and therapy. RESULTS: Preoperative body weight was 186.1 kg [159; 230], TWL - 37.6 kg [23; 67], EWL - 57.3 kg [36; 90]. According to our study, remission of diabetes occurred in 84% of cases, sleep apnea symptoms regressed in 94.1% of cases. Normal blood pressure or reduced need for medications was achieved in 50% of cases. Normalization of low-density lipoproteins or statin dose reduction occurred in 79% of cases. CONCLUSION: Thus, mini-gastric bypass is a relatively safe procedure with minimal rate of early postoperative complications.
