Comparative Evaluation of Accuracy of Cephalometric Analysis by Using Semi-Automated Android Based Smartphone Application With Conventional Method
AbstractIntroduction: Cephalometric radiographs are essential diagnostic aids in Orthodontics and were traced manually. Recent advancements in computer technology had enabled digital tracing, using software like Dolphin Imaging and Nemoceph that were expensive. In recent years, smartphone apps like OneCeph, SmartCeph Pro, and CephNinja and that has practically made our lives easy. Newly released “OneCeph” application is a free app has the ability to produce several cephalometric analyses in a short period of time. Despite various studies comparing conventional methods, smartphone applications, there are limited research in evaluating and comparing semi-automated smartphone applications “OneCeph” with conventional method.Materials and method: A total number of 23 landmarks were registered, and 10 angular and 8 linear cephalometric parameters were measured on 30 pretreatment cephalograms. The measurements for both digital (OneCeph) and conventional tracings were performed. The variation in measurements between the tracing techniques (reproducibility) was determined by paired t-test.Result: Significant differences between the two tracing techniques were detected in five measurements (Go-Gn-SN, FH-MP, Cant. of OP, Yen Angle, U1-NA; P < .05.). Mostmeasurements, such as SNA, SNB, U1-NA,L1-NB, BETA ANGLE, NASIOLABIAL ANGLE , demonstrated minimal mean differences with p-values > 0.05, indicating no significant difference. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that digital tracing using the OneCeph application provides comparable accuracy to manual tracing except these parameters Go-Gn-SN, FH-MP, Cant. of OP, Yen Angle, and U1-NA. Digital tracing can be given time advantage. Therefore, could be used instead of the traditional methods and making it a viable alternative for routine clinical practice
