Building a Secure, Role-Aware Web Platform for Campus Training and Placement Coordination
Campus placement cells are the intersection of three groups that rarely work on the same page. Students who chase offers, coordinators who try to keep records straight and recruiters who expect a smooth process when they show up on campus. When this coordination is still done on spreadsheets, email threads, and printed notices, the cracks show up as unsecured resume storage, no real server-side gatekeeping, broken communication loops, and administrators making decisions without live data. In this paper we present QUICK HIRE, a security-first, role-aware placement portal developed on a split frontend/backend codebase maintained in a single monorepo, with React on the client, Flask on the server and MySQL for storage. At the core is a fine-grained role-based access control scheme, an eligibility checker on the server rather than trusting the browser, a multi-round interview-tracking pipeline and a notification engine firing independently of the business transactions it reports on. From a security perspective the system adds rate limiting, standard header hardening, an XSS-scrubbing pipeline and magic-byte file verification to the mix. Trials in a staging environment built to mimic production showed reduced administrative lag, tighter cross-team coordination and no successful unauthorised access attempts, all while keeping the interface usable on a phone screen – a workable template other institutions can adopt. Index Terms—database design, role-based access control, security hardening, web application architecture, placement management systems, input validation.
