Participatory Rubric Design: Faculty and Student Collaborators in Constructing Assignment Rubric
This presentation will present how faculty and student collaboration in the classroom can be used as a teaching strategy. In this context, the faculty and students collaborate to design an assignment rubric. Using this strategy, faculty can practice and demonstrate inclusive teaching and enhance the learning experiences of students in the course. Students benefit because they are (1) empowered in terms of assignment expectations, grading and evaluation, (2) the culture in the classroom reflects and values all learners and their perspectives. Finally, the faculty and student collaboration in the assignment rubric design can inspire student engagement and better performance on the assignment.
