Potential Parasitic Infection Risks Associated with Dog and Cat Fecal Contamination on the Streets of Dhaka
This literature-based academic discussion examines the potential public-health and parasitic infection risks associated with dog and cat fecal contamination on streets and footpaths in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It discusses possible human exposure to zoonotic parasites of public-health interest, including Toxocara spp., zoonotic hookworms, Giardia duodenalis, and Toxoplasma gondii, with emphasis on environmental contamination, hygiene, footwear, and urban sanitation. The article also presents practical preventive measures and highlights the importance of responsible animal health management and proper fecal waste removal. This work is based on published literature and does not report original laboratory, environmental sampling, or epidemiological data from Dhaka. Further local research is needed to assess the actual prevalence and transmission risks in the urban environment.
