Robot-assisted laparoscopy partial nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma in a patient with situs inversus totalis: a case report

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in a patient with situs inversus totalis is an extremely rare case. The treatment options for this disease may confuse surgeons. In particular, with the development of minimally invasive surgery, more reports are needed on whether robot-assisted laparoscopy partial nephrectomy can treat tumours in such special anatomical locations. Here, we presented a 40-year-old man suffering from RCC with situs inversus totalis, who agreed to undergo robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. We found that tumor enucleation and renorrhaphy were still flexible by Da Vinci surgical system, especially with less bleeding. In summary, robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for early RCC ( p T 1a ) patients is a safe and reliable surgical option, which requires more attempts in RCC patients with situs inversus totalis.
