Osteochondritis dissecans in the medial femoral condyle in a cat with bilateral medial patellar luxation and hip dysplasia
Abstract A 5‐month‐old female domestic shorthair cat was presented due to a 3‐month history of intermittent hindlimb lameness. Physical examination, radiographs and computed tomography were indicative of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) in the right medial femoral condyle, accompanied by bilateral medial patellar luxation (MPL) and bilateral hip dysplasia. Surgical intervention was performed and histopathological evaluation of the fragment within the right stifle joint confirmed the diagnosis of OCD. In spite of bilateral concurrent MPL, the OCD lesion was restricted to the right side. Short‐term outcome of the OCD‐affected stifle was favourable at a 6‐month evaluation, but loss of long‐term follow‐up prevented assessment of potential secondary osteoarthritic changes. Although OCD is uncommon in cats, it should be considered a differential diagnosis in juvenile patients presenting with lameness.
