Reflections across borders: analyzing service-learning collaborative reflections of Chilean and Ecuadorian university students

This study delves into the application of a service-learning collaborative reflection model (SL-CRM) via Instagram, contrasting the experiences of students from Chilean and Ecuadorian universities. The study aimed to explore these students’ reflections within the context of the SL-CRM. The model consisted of three levels of reflection, five cycles, and four foci. Analysis of student responses revealed both similarities and differences between the groups. Both groups reported the ability to challenge their prejudices but experienced diverse service experiences. They highlighted the importance of adaptation for meaningful learning in SL. Students also reaffirmed their professional passion and commitment to using their knowledge and skills to serve the community. This transformational process deepened their understanding of social realities and demonstrated a commitment to social justice. The utilization of an SL-CRM through Instagram provided an effective means to enhance the reflection process in SL.
