WALKING THE EMOTIONAL TIGHTROPE
At 2:47 on a Sunday morning, Maya sends a message she will regret by breakfast. Twelve words, typed in thirty seconds, end a friendship of six years. By noon she is sobbing — not because the friendship meant nothing, but because it meant everything. The fear of abandonment did not creep up gently; it swallowed her whole, the way a wave swallows a child who turned her back on the ocean for a moment. Her friend has not replied. Maya alternates between fury and despair, and by evening she has drafted an apology she is too ashamed to send.
