A Novel Presentation of Concurrent Ameloblastoma of the Mandible and Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Submandibular Gland
AbstractAmeloblastoma and pleomorphic adenoma are common odontogenic and salivary gland tumors respectively; however, the simultaneous occurrence of both lesions in a single patient is exceedingly rare. Ameloblastoma is a locally aggressive odontogenic tumor of the jaws, pleomorphic adenoma is a non-malignant tumor of the salivary glands distinguished by its varied histopathological features. The presence of two distinct tumors in the same patient poses a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the clinician, particularly due to overlapping clinical and radiographic features. Accurate diagnosis through careful clinical evaluation, radiographic assessment, and histopathological examination is essential to ensure appropriate management and prevent recurrence. In this article, we describe a unique case involving a 54 year old patient diagnosed with ameloblastoma of the mandible and pleomorphic adenoma of the submandiular gland, highlighting the diagnostic considerations and treatment approach adopted for successful management of both lesions.
