Cryoneurolysis as an effective spasticity treatment option : a case series

Abstract Background Achieving effective treatment for spasticity remains a clinical challenge. The commonly used available options are either physical therapy ( stretching, electric stimulation, local heat or cold therapy), medical treatment either oral or injectable therapy even if combined often do not achieve patient and clinical goals, with sometimes delayed/ short term outcome. The need for other modalities is a must. Cryoneurolysis is a novel treatment that could offer promising results. Case presentation In this case series, eight patients had Cryoneurolysis of certain nerves in an outpatient clinic to address neuropathic gait or lower extremity pain, weakness, and spasticity. Following treatment, all eight patients saw immediate benefits that persisted for a few months to one year . Conclusion Cryoneurolysis can provide easy access to the affected nerves and is a safe and efficient treatment for spasticity.
