Failure of Classical Probability: An Active–Inactive Deviation Framework
Classical probability theory assigns probabilities to events within a prescribed sam-ple space and, in its modern formulation, represents uncertainty by a probability mea-sure satisfying the standard axioms. This framework is mathematically complete forits intended purpose, but it does not explicitly represent the mechanism by which astate becomes active, inactive, or deviates from a reference state. In this paper adeviation-based probability structure is proposed in which a probabilistic transitionis decomposed into a directional component and a deviation component. The basicrepresentation isZ(x, u) = η(x, u) + ∆(x, u),where η represents direction and ∆ represents deviation or correction. An associatedbinary state variable distinguishesA = Active, I = Inactive. The active state is generated by a nonzero transition component, while the inactivestate corresponds to the absence of such activation. A probability is therefore con-sidered not only as a measure assigned to an event but also as a measure associatedwith a state transition. The proposed framework leads to a deviation probability, anactive probability, and an inactive probability. Classical probability is recovered whenthe deviation component vanishes or becomes irrelevant to the transition. The papertherefore interprets the limitation of classical probability not as a failure of its axioms, but as a structural limitation when activation and deviation are essential componentsof the phenomenon under investigation.
