CORPUSCULAR ELEMENTS OF BLOOD
The corpuscular elements of blood are the cellular components responsible for several essential physiological processes, including oxygen transport, immune defense, and blood coagulation. They consist of erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and thrombocytes (platelets). Each component has a specialized structure and function that contributes to maintaining homeostasis and protecting the human body. Erythrocytes transport oxygen from the lungs to body tissues and carry a portion of carbon dioxide back to the lungs. Leukocytes protect the body against infectious agents and other foreign substances, while platelets play a crucial role in preventing blood loss by participating in hemostasis. This article examines the structure, formation, functions, and clinical significance of the corpuscular elements of blood. Understanding these components is essential for interpreting blood test results, diagnosing hematological disorders, and evaluating overall health.
