We assemble public data on what a night in a US hotel costs. Industry benchmark releases give the average daily rate (ADR), room revenue per occupied room night before taxes and fees: USD 160.54 in 2025, 0.9% above 2024, after USD 103.25 in 2020 and USD 131.21 in 2019. Monthly rates in 2025 ranged from USD 151.20 in January to USD 162.69 in September. Bureau of Labor Statistics price indexes show that the like-for-like consumer price of hotel and motel stays rose 11.9% from 2019 to 2025, less than half the 25.9% rise in all consumer prices, although over 1967–2025 hotel prices rose about 14-fold against 9.6-fold. Producer prices diverged by class between 2019 and 2025: full-service rooms rose 25% and luxury and resort rooms 19%, while limited-service rooms fell 0.8%. Company reports show luxury brands in the US and Canada averaging USD 442.41 in the fourth quarter of 2025, 2.8 times select-service brands, and extended-stay hotels of a midscale franchisor USD 66.10. Among major markets, Hawaii led at USD 366.66, 2.3 times the national rate; Las Vegas's own survey gave USD 183.52, 5.0% below 2024. State-level taxes on hotel rooms range from none to 15.95%, and combined rates in seven large cities from 12.5% to 18.712%; New York adds USD 3.50 in flat fees, for USD 27.18 on an average night. US households spent USD 906 on lodging on trips in 2024, 46% more than in 2019.
