In 2025 a general visitor spent ¥228,782 in Japan, excluding the international flight, over an average stay of 9.5 nights: USD 1,530 at the annual average rate, or ¥24,082 (USD 161) a night. The consumer price index for hotel and inn charges was 37.1% above its 2019 level in 2025, against 11.9% for all items, and Japan's price level fell from 106.5 to 65.7 (United States = 100) between 2019 and 2024. Spending per visitor ranged from ¥105,058 for South Koreans to ¥392,251 for Germans; British visitors (¥391,320) spent 3.72 times as much as South Koreans, and a night in Tokyo cost ¥27,643, 2.21 times Hyogo.
