NICD Standard v4.1 — Neuro-Inclusive Cosmetic Design: A Technical Framework for Universal Application
The NICD Standard (Neuro-Inclusive Cosmetic Design) is a technical framework for the design and assessment of cosmetic, personal care, oral care and fragrance products for neurodivergent users. It defines five foundational axioms, five assessment domains, the Stimulation Band taxonomy, the Honesty Gap Score, the Neuro-Sensory Irritation Index (NSI), Standardised Sensory Units (SSU) and the Neuro-Tolerability Score (NTS), together with panel and verification protocols. Version 4.1 supersedes v4.0. It corrects the Neuro-Tolerability Score normalisation and the conversion of criterion scores to Domain points; defines NSI consistently as the panel-measured Neuro-Sensory Irritation Index; harmonises panel size and composition requirements; introduces non-verbal response formats for panellists; clarifies commercial licensing; and adds UK cosmetic and EU claims regulations to the normative references.
