PUH Theorem 384 — Refraction Needs a Rest Frame: Tension Carried With Its Matter Drags Light as Moving Water Does, and That Gives General Relativity's Frame Dragging and the Double Pulsar
Photonic Universe Hypothesis (PUH) — Theorem paper. THE QUESTION. T383 found that the archive's metric, built from one scalar, passes every static test but gives no frame dragging and advances the double pulsar by 5.65 deg/yr instead of 16.90 ('A scalar cannot carry the velocity of its source'). Its OPEN (1): a field sourced by energy and momentum, falling as 1/r, with T299's metric as its rest form; the lattice's own geometry the first candidate. Here 'the tension' is T299's tension ratio, lambda/lambda0 = (1 - r_s/r)^-1, which T305 identifies with the refractive index; which field carries its 1/r tail (T383 OPEN (2)) is not needed. RESULT 384.1 — THE LATTICE'S STRAIN CANNOT CURVE. Strain from cells that are moved but not torn is a change of coordinates (Saint-Venant compatibility): its linearised curvature vanishes for every displacement field (finite differences at truncation level), while T299's spatial metric is curved outside every core, R_ij = -d_i d_j U. A strain picture would need defects filling the space around every mass, and still lacks the clock rate. RESULT 384.2 — CORES THAT TAKE LATTICE IN: AN EXACT REWRITING, NOT THE MECHANISM. With the author's correction (cores take lattice in and make spacetime at their poles, T368), the lattice can flow. Lattice streaming in at the escape speed sqrt(2GM/r) is the Schwarzschild metric in Painleve-Gullstrand form, and T299's tension ratio is exactly the Lorentz factor squared of that inflow. At the Shell (1.077 x 2GM/c^2, T311) the inflow is 0.9636c, inside T368's cap. But the inflow through a sphere grows as r^1.5: only 5.8e-14 of what crosses Earth's surface (9.8e-9 at the Sun's, 3.1e-12 at 1 AU) could reach the Shell, so empty space would have to take lattice in at (3/2)v/r per second (2.63e-3 /s at Earth's surface). A balanced core's own flow falls as 1/r^4 and its two-pole pattern does not reverse with the spin. In the author's reading gravity is the tension, and matter piles up because unfolding is capped per Shell area (T210, T213): the inflow is a rewriting, not PUH's mechanism. RESULT 384.3 — REFRACTION NEEDS A REST FRAME. T299's metric is exactly a refractive medium at rest with its matter, Omega^2[eta + (1 - 1/n^2) u u], n = (1+U/2)^3/(1-U/2) (Gordon's optical metric with a conformal factor). An index is defined in the medium's rest frame. Tension with no rest frame can only scale clocks and rods together, (1 + 2aU) eta, which bends no light (0.0000" at the Sun's limb against 1.7512"; Nordström's scalar theory). The lattice's frame is T383's scalar construction, which T317 does not allow and which loses frame dragging. Only the frame of the matter that makes the tension remains. RESULT 384.4 — FRESNEL'S DRAG IS GENERAL RELATIVITY'S FACTOR OF 4. Tension carried with its matter is a moving medium, and relativistic velocity addition (Fizeau 1851; Laue 1907) forces Fresnel's drag 1 - 1/n^2. For the tension's index this is 4GM/(rc^2) (2.800000e-9 = 4U x 0.999999999 at Earth's surface): exactly the 4 in general relativity's g0i = -4 gamma^2 beta U. The carried metric equals the tensor-boosted rest metric at every speed (to 1e-15), and many sources each carrying their own tension sum to linearised general relativity sourced by energy and momentum (5e-16 over 200 draws). RESULT 384.5 — EARTH, GRAVITY PROBE B AND THE DOUBLE PULSAR. For a two-layer Earth (I/MR^2 = 0.3307), Earth's tension is carried round at J sin(theta)/(2Mr): 76.8 m/s at the equator (0.165 of the ground's speed), 69.6 m/s at Gravity Probe B's orbit (Gauss quadrature matches to three decimals). Because the tension refracts so weakly, light and gyroscopes are dragged at only 0.2139 micrometres/s at the equator, exactly c|g0i| — Gravity Probe B's frame dragging (general relativity's 39.2 mas/yr; measured 37.2 +- 7.2). With each star carrying its tension the double pulsar advances 16.897 deg/yr (measured 16.8993; 5.646 with the tension at rest in the lattice). The drag follows the angular momentum of Earth's ordinary matter, so ordinary matter must make and carry its share of the tension. KILL-CONDITIONS: light bending or frame dragging that depends on a source's motion through the lattice rather than relative to the observer; frame dragging that follows a core's spin rather than the ordinary matter's; refraction that bends light by 1.75" with no rest frame for the index. NOT CLAIMED: that the lattice has a field carrying the tension's rest frame; gravitational waves or orbital decay; the nonlinear field equations beyond T299's static form; that the inflow reading is wrong as mathematics; that cores play no part in gravity; which field carries the 1/r tail. OPEN: the lattice degree of freedom that carries the tension's rest frame out to 1/r (T302's second field, T303, T380); propagation (retardation, gravitational waves, orbital decay); the carrier of the static tail.
