Rewriting the Space of the Possible Recursive Creativity as Object–Space Coevolution
Creativity is usually defined by what it produces: a novel and valuable object. This article proposes that, in its recursive form, creativity is defined by a relation: the coupling between the objects produced and the design space in which they are produced. Objects expose the limits of the space; transforming the space makes previously unreachable objects possible; and that transformation may in turn alter the rule by which the space is transformed. The creative system is formalized as St = ⟨Vt, Et, Rt⟩ (variation, evaluation, reproduction) with dynamics St+1 = Φt(St, Ot, Xt) and three degrees of recursion. Three pure forms of transformation are distinguished (variational, evaluative, reproductive), and standard creativity is shown to be the degenerate case in which the loop does not close. The article reconstructs the state of the art, the ontology, the genealogy and the historicity of the concept, and locates the theory within the architecture of the General Theory of Technology (Technogenesis) as a recursive relation Ti → Cr → Tj, subject to membership criteria C1–C3 and to maturity (M) and correctability (K) diagnostics. Four propositions with falsification conditions are stated and the main objections are discussed. The contribution is conceptual and architectural; empirical validation is left as an explicit research program.
