Web-Supported School Health Application: A Mixed-Method Study on Students’ Physical Fitness Parameters and Experiences

This study aimed to examine the effects of a 10-week Web-Supported School Health (WEDOS) program based on the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility Model (TPSRM) on students’ Health-Related Fitness Knowledge (HRFK), Exercise Stages of Change (ESC), and Health-Related Fitness (HRF) parameters, as well as to gain an in-depth understanding of students’ experiences during the implementation process. An embedded mixed-method design was employed, involving 52 seventh-grade students, with 25 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group. Data were collected through the HRFK Test, ESC Questionnaire, HRF tests, focus group interviews, student diaries, and researcher field notes. Following Holm adjustment, significant pre-test–post-test differences were found in the experimental group for flexibility, crunches, HRFK, and ESC. At post-test, the experimental group had significantly higher flexibility, HRFK, and ESC scores than the control group. Students’ experiences complemented the quantitative findings in terms of acquiring and applying health-related knowledge in daily life, willingness to participate in physical activity, and awareness of their physical fitness levels; however, some difficulties related to maintaining regular physical activity and accessing technology were also identified. The integrated findings suggest that WEDOS may support health-related learning, physical activity participation, and physical fitness awareness in physical education.
