Data Correction Workflow for Isotope Analysis of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) by Orbitrap-IRMS

Abstract Data corrections (data normalization) for isotope analyses are crucial for traditional magnetic sector isotope ratio mass spectrometry to facilitate meaningful interlaboratory data comparisons. Within the nascent field of Orbitrap-IRMS (isotope ratio mass spectrometry by Orbitrap mass spectrometry) and particularly the application of Orbitrap-IRMS to the analysis of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), data correction procedures do not exist. We present a procedure for correcting data generated during the analysis of PFASs by Orbitrap-IRMS. This procedure will provide for a robust comparison of data between laboratories.
