The Future of Testimony: Archives, Education, and Memory Work in the Post-Survivor Era

Abstract The interview was conducted by Dr Mispa Roux (Education and Research Specialist at the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre) with Dr Catherine Clark, who is Senior Director of Programs at the USC Shoah Foundation. Trained as a historian of modern Europe, she joined the Foundation after serving at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she remains Associate Professor of History and French Studies. In this conversation, Clark reflects on the origins and evolution of the Foundation, the use of testimony as a historical source and pedagogical tool, the challenges of antisemitism and Holocaust distortion, the role of new technologies, and the future of memory work in what is increasingly described as the post-survivor era.
