In Vitro Analysis of Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Ethanolic Extract of Four Homoeopathic Mother Tinctures (Q)

Abstract The scientific understanding of homoeopathic therapy is lacking due to a dearth of preclinical investigations. The majority of human disorders are primarily caused by acute and chronic inflammation. The entire inflammatory process involves denaturation of protein. Hence, the drug that stops protein denaturation would be categorized as an anti-inflammatory medication. This experiment aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of Homoeopathic medicines for their therapeutic benefits. The anti-inflammatory properties of Ricinus communis, Eucalyptus globulus, Arnica montana, and Tinaspora cordifolia mother tinctures (Q) were evaluated by an egg albumin denaturation assay with slight modifications. Diclofenac was used as a standard control; 91, 87, 61, and 49% of ethanol were used as the negative controls and distilled water was used as only control. The experiment was performed three times to check its accuracy and reproducibility. The mean ± standard deviation of four Homoeopathic mother tinctures (Q) showed lower values than the negative control and control. The 150 µg/mL concentration of Eucalyptus globulus mother tincture (Q) showed 89% and that of Arnica montana showed 86.1%. The Ricinus communis mother tincture (Q) and Tinaspora cordifolia mother tincture (Q) showed 81.3 and 67.9%, respectively. All four Homoeopathic mother tinctures (Q) have demonstrated significant p-values (p < 0.05) in one-way analysis of variance as well as in Dunnett's post hoc test p-values (p < 0.016) except Ricinus communis mother tincture (Q). This study helps provide a rationale for the anti-inflammatory properties linked to Homoeopathic remedies. Eucalyptus globulus and Arnica montana have high anti-inflammatory properties at low concentrations (150 µg/mL). Hence, they could be useful in treating various kinds of inflammatory disorders.
