Study of Robustness Index and Product Index of Dry, Adult Human Clavicle in Bangladeshi population.

The clavicle is morphologically a modified long bone of upper limb and is also an important bone for transmission of body weight from upper limb to the axial skeleton, for muscle attachment and is a significant source of bone grafting. The basic framework of human body is reflected in bones and may provide valuable information about the biological identity of the deceased which can be used for forensic anthropological perspectives. Biological sex determination is one of the most important determinations to be made from human remains and is an essential first step in the development of the biological profile in forensics, anthropology and bioarcheology. The study which was descriptive cross-sectional in nature was done among 150 (65 right and 85 left) fully ossified and dried human clavicle in Mymensingh Medical College, Bangladesh from January 2020 to December 2020. Non-random purposive sampling technique was applied for sample collection from Department of Anatomy of Mymensingh Medical College and Community Based Medical College, Bangladesh, Mymensingh. The parameters were robustness index and product index; a ratio in which the baseline data were collected by the help of flexible measuring tape and rigid osteometry board. The robustness index is the percentage ratio between the mid clavicular circumference and straight length of clavicle whereas the product index is the inverse percentage ratio of robustness index. The mean ±SD robustness index of 65 right sided clavicles were 24.94±2.66 and 85 clavicles of left side were 25.02±2.41 whereas in case of product index it became 404.86±47.28 for 65 right sided clavicles and 403.29±38.77 for 85 left sided clavicles.
