The Urgent Surgical Outcome of Intracranial Subdural Empyema: A Case Presentation.
Intracranial subdural empyema represents a rare yet severe infection affecting the brain. Advances in diagnostic techniques and therapeutic interventions have significantly decreased the previously observed mortality rate of 100.0% to a current range of 4.0-9.0%. This notable improvement can be attributed primarily to a reduction in the time taken to initiate treatment. The initial challenge lies in recognizing the potential presence of this condition. Numerous case reports, series and retrospective studies have contributed to the understanding of this issue; however, the clinical epidemiology has evolved over time. In the presented case, an unconscious patient underwent urgent surgical intervention, resulting in a swift postoperative recovery.
