Effects of Pelvic Floor Pilates Training Across Age Groups in Patients with Post-Prostatectomy Incontinence.

INTRODUCTION: Post-prostatectomy incontinence is a common complication that significantly affects quality of life. Pelvic floor muscle training is a standard treatment, but the influence of age on recovery remains unclear. This study evaluated the effects of pelvic floor Pilates training across age groups among patients with post-prostatectomy incontinence. METHODS: A total of 48 patients were included in this 8-week prospective cohort study. Patients were stratified into three age groups: group A (<60 years), group B (60-70 years[A11.1]), and group C (>70 years). Outcomes were assessed using the 1-hour pad test, the number of incontinent episodes, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ-SF), and the Oxford Grading Scale. RESULTS: Significant improvements were observed in all groups. In the 1-hour pad test (g), mean urine loss decreased from 80.13 ± 7.34 g to 33.75 ± 4.62 g in group A, from 81.24 ± 7.24 g to 39.53 ± 4.94 g in group B, and from 82.73 ± 6.56 g to 44.07 ± 4.56 g in group C (all P<0.01). The number of incontinence episodes decreased from 10.38 ± 1.45 to 3.68 ± 0.70 in group A, from 10.71 ± 1.68 to 4.00 ± 0.71 in group B, and from 10.60 ± 1.40 to 4.40 ± 0.73 in group C (all P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Pelvic floor Pilates training significantly improves urinary continence in patients with post-prostatectomy incontinence. However, recovery appears to be influenced by age, with greater improvement observed in younger patients.
