The effect of local food experiencescape and memorable tourism experience on behavioral intention: A comparative study between destinations in Türkiye
Purpose: The study investigates the effects of local food experiences, perceived value, and satisfaction levels on behavioral intention. Design/methodology/approach:The population of the study consists of individuals who have visited Adana, Balıkesir, Diyarbakır, Kayseri, and Konya destinations at least once. The fact that the selected cities are important tourism and gastronomy centers and that they are included in Türkiye's National List of UNESCO Creative Cities in the field of gastronomy influenced their selection as the population. The clustering sampling method was used.507 participants were reached through Google Forms between July 2023 and August 2023.Results: While communitas, education and escapism have not a significant effect on memorable tourism experience, entertainment, aesthetics, serendipity, localness, and personalisation have a significant effect on memorable tourism experience.Memorable tourism experiences also significantly affect perceived value and customer satisfaction.Lastly, perceived value and customer satisfaction have a positive effect on behavioral intention.Discussion: It has been observed that delivering an memorable tourism experience at a destination relies on highlighting local authenticity-rather than merely communitas, escapism, or education-through engaging, entertaining presentations and dining experiences tailored to consumer preferences.Furthermore, it has been found that such presentations and personalized experiences enhance perceived value and satisfaction, thereby fostering positive behavioral intentions among tourists.
