REPRESENTATION OF HUMAN EFFORT AND ACHIEVEMENT IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PROVERBS

This article examines the representation of human effort and achievement in English and Uzbek proverbs from comparative-semantic and linguocultural perspectives. The aim of the research is to identify common and culturally specific conceptual models through which diligence, perseverance, initiative, professional skill, and achievement are expressed in the two proverbial systems. Comparative, descriptive, semantic, conceptual, and linguocultural methods are applied. The analysis identifies five major conceptual models: EFFORT → ACHIEVEMENT, PERSEVERANCE → SUCCESS, INITIATIVE → OPPORTUNITY, SKILL → EFFECTIVE RESULT, and INACTION → FAILURE. The findings show that both English and Uzbek proverbs positively evaluate purposeful activity and associate sustained effort with successful outcomes. However, English proverbs more frequently emphasise initiative, timing, responsibility, and opportunity, whereas Uzbek proverbs tend to foreground labour, livelihood, craftsmanship, action, and social dignity. The study demonstrates that effort and achievement have a universal conceptual basis, while their linguistic representation reflects culturally specific experiences.

The study demonstrates that effort and achievement have a universal conceptual basis, while their linguistic representation reflects culturally specific experiences.
