A Study On The Role Of Hrm Practices In Enhancing Employee Engagement And Retention Among Employees In Selected It And Ites Companies In Chennai

Abstract Human Resource Management (HRM) has become an important organizational function for creating a productive, committed and engaged workforce. The Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) industries operate in a highly competitive and rapidly evolving environment, where organizations frequently encounter challenges associated with employee engagement and workforce retention. Factors such as demanding work schedules, changing technological requirements, career aspirations, competitive employment opportunities and expectations regarding organizational support can influence employees' willingness to remain with an organization. Against this background, the present study proposes to investigate the contribution of HRM practices towards employee engagement and retention among employees of selected IT and ITES companies in Chennai. The study will examine selected HRM dimensions, including training and development, performance appraisal, compensation and rewards, career development opportunities, employee recognition, work-life balance and organizational communication, and their relationship with employee engagement and retention. A descriptive and analytical research design will be adopted. Primary data will be obtained from 250 employees working in selected IT and ITES organizations in Chennai using a structured questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. The collected data will be subjected to appropriate statistical analysis, including percentage analysis, descriptive statistics, reliability assessment using Cronbach's alpha, correlation analysis, regression analysis and relevant tests of significance. The study will test whether HRM practices are significantly associated with employee engagement and employee retention. It will also examine whether employee engagement has a significant relationship with employees' intention to remain with their organizations. The outcomes of the study are expected to contribute to a better understanding of how organizations can align HRM practices with employee expectations and workplace needs. The findings may assist HR professionals and organizational managers in developing appropriate people-management strategies aimed at strengthening employee engagement, organizational commitment, job satisfaction and sustainable employee retention within the IT and ITES sectors in Chennai.
