Social Security Protection of Migrant Workers in Surat under the Social Security Code,2020

Migrant workers play a significant role in the economic development of Surat, particularly in industries such as textiles, construction and manufacturing. However, they often face challenges in accessing social security due to informal employment, limited awareness, registration difficulties and lack of portability of benefits. This research reviews the social security protection available to migrant workers in Surat under the Code on Social Security, 2020. The study examines the legal framework, accessibility and portability of social security benefits, and challenges associated with implementation. It further identifies gaps between statutory protection and practical access and provides recommendations to strengthen registration, awareness, portability, employer compliance and grievance mechanisms. The study highlights the need for an accessible and effective social security system that protects migrant workers and promotes social justice and labour welfare.
