Contextual Earnings Inequality Measures for Industries and Occupations in Germany

Abstract This article introduces openly accessible contextual earnings inequality measures for industries and occupations in Germany. The indicators are derived from official earnings data from the German Structure of Earnings Survey (2010, 2014, 2018) and the German Earnings Survey (2022–2024). The data product provides Gini coefficients, four generalized entropy measures, and earnings deciles for gross monthly and gross hourly earnings. The article documents the source data, construction procedures, coverage, publication thresholds, repository structure, and linkage options. The indicators allow researchers to study contextual earnings inequality without direct access to confidential employee-level microdata.
