Regional Disparities in Renewable Electricity Generation and Consumption in Ireland
Ireland has committed to achieving 80% renewable electricity by 2030, yet limited attention has been given to how renewable electricity generation and consumption are distributed across regions. This study asks whether renewable electricity generation in Ireland is spatially aligned with electricity consumption and population density at the county level. The analysis uses publicly available secondary data from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the Central Statistics Office (CSO). County-level indicators were analysed using descriptive statistic, scatter plots, and choropleth maps to examine relationships between renewable electricity generation, electricity consumption, and population density.
