Incidence and Predictors of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction Following Pituitary Adenomectomy: A Prospective Randomized Study

Objectives: After surgery and anesthesia, many patients are confronted with cognitive deficits, especially memory is affected. For this purpose; neuropsychological tests were applied to patients undergoing pituitary adenoma excision surgery, where postoperative neurological problems are important; this study aimed to assess the incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) and examine the relationship between demographic characteristics and the occurrence of POCD.Methods: To work; in the ASA II-III group, 92 patients without neurological and psychiatric disorders were included in the planned pituitary adenomectomy surgery after written consent of the patients or their relatives were consent. Preoperative the standardized mini-mental test (SMMT) was applied to the patients. For uneducated patients; standardized mini-mental test (SMMTE) for Illiterate Individuals was applied. General anesthesia was inducted with; intravenous thiopental, remifentanil and rocuronium. And maintained with total intravenous anesthesia. At the 15th minute after extubation, modified aldrete recovery scores was calculated and recorded. Postoperative 1st, 4th, 24th and 1st month SMMT was performed. The data obtained after the study; normal distribution was evaluated by Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. Numerical variables mean ± standard deviation and median and categorical variables were given as frequency. Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis One-Way variance analysis tests were used for the numerical variables that did not have normal distribution. p
