The Mirror We Built: What Ai Might Reveal About Humanity
This essay argues that AI, trained on the accumulated record of human thought and behavior, works less as an alien intelligence and more as a mirror of humanity. It asks how much concern about AI risk reflects discomfort with our own patterns, including ignoring warnings and failing to optimize for the long term. The author argues that an underexamined risk is psychological rather than physical. Using military decision systems as the main example, the essay describes a gap between making a decision and carrying its emotional weight. It asks what happens to people who increasingly rely on machines for decisions they must still live with.
