Paul Hockings—Putting the Past Together
Paul Hockings participated wholeheartedly in the planning and execution of the conference Origins of Visual Anthropology - Putting the Past Together, which occurred in 2001 in Göttingen, Germany. Beate Engelbrecht, an anthropologist working at the Institute for Scientific Film (Institut für den Wissenschaftlichen Film (IWF), organized the conference. Consequently, it was decided that the entire conference would be recorded on video. This provides the opportunity to observe Paul Hockings’ behavior during the conference, in his roles as moderator, speaker and commentator. In the following, some excerpts will be shown, with each one introduced by a comment.
