Antidepressant-induced Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Unraveling Sertraline\'s Role in Acute Lung Injury
Drug-induced lung disease (DILD) is a rare but potentially serious complication.Given the widespread use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and the potential for severe pulmonary complications, it is crucial for clinicians to recognize the signs and symptoms of DILD.This case report underscores the importance of considering DILD in patients with new respiratory symptoms after starting medications, even those with well-established safety profiles like sertraline. Here, we describe a 65-year-old male who developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) following the initiation of sertraline therapy. The patient, with no prior history of cardiopulmonary disease, initially presented with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. His clinical course was complicated by the onset of severe respiratory distress shortly after starting sertraline, prompting consideration of drug-induced lung injury.
