A study on tourists hedonic hunger levels and luxury consumption tendencies

Purpose: This study purpose to determine the impact of tourists' levels of hedonic hunger on their tendencies toward luxury consumption.Another objective of the research is to identify the differences in hedonic hunger and luxury consumption tendencies based on the preferred hotel concept.Design/methodology/approach: This study is a quantitative research in terms of the method it employs.A causal research design was adopted to analyze the statistical effects of the variables, while a descriptive research design was used to identify the current state of the variables.399 tourists who chose different hotel concepts were selected through a convenience sampling method.Data collected from these tourists via questionnaires were analysed accordingly.Results: According to the analysis results, tourists' levels of hedonic hunger have a positive effect on luxury consumption.Furthermore, tourists who prefer the all-inclusive system exhibit higher tendencies toward luxury consumption compared to those who prefer other hotel concepts.It was also found that female participants have higher levels of hedonic hunger than male participants.Discussion: Although the results of the study indicate that hedonic hunger does not lead to differences in preferences regarding hotel concepts, it does create differences in the tendency toward luxury consumption.Furthermore, hedonic hunger influences the impact of luxury consumption.Consequently, tourists perceive the all-inclusive concept as more luxurious, and those with high levels of hedonic hunger may prefer the all-inclusive system based on their inclination toward luxury consumption.This gap will serve as inspiration for future studies.
