Phytochemical investigation of Tiarella polyphylla and its chemotaxonomic significance
The phytochemical study of Tiarella polyphylla afforded one new compound 12 S *,13 R *-dihydroxy-9-oxo-octadeca-10( E ),15( E )-enoic acid ( 1 ), along with 20 known compounds, including four triterpenoids ( 2 – 4, 18 ), two sterols ( 5 – 6 ), three flavonoids ( 7 – 9 ), five phenolic compounds ( 10 – 14 ), one C13 norsesquiterpenoid ( 15 ), two dipeptides ( 16 and 17 ), and three aliphatic derivatives ( 19 – 21 ). The structures of these compounds were elucidated by various spectroscopic techniques, including HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR, as well as comparison with previously documented data. Compounds 1 , 4 , 8 , 12 – 13 , 15 – 21 were isolated from the Saxifragaceae for the first time, while compound 14 was reported in the genus Tiarella for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of these isolates was further discussed.
