Parks Canada's Climate‐Smart Conservation Planning Workbook

Abstract The Climate‐Smart Conservation Planning Workbook (Supporting Information S1), initially drafted by Parks Canada in 2020, offers a structured, evidence‐based approach to integrating climate change considerations into natural resource management. It involves a four‐step process: identifying forward‐looking conservation goals, assessing climate threats and impacts, selecting climate‐smart conservation strategies, and linking these to desired ecological outcomes. The Workbook includes templates and guidance, drawing from lessons learned from a range of climate‐smart conservation planning case studies. The Workbook can be used and adapted by other conservation practitioners to support their own climate‐smart conservation planning efforts. French translations of the Workbook (Supporting Information S2) and this article (Supporting Information S3) are available.
