Exploring the Reuse of Dredged Sediments as a Sustainable Alternative for Eco-Friendly Brick Manufacturing: A Comprehensive Review

The rapid growth of construction has significantly raised the hazard of the depletion of natural raw materials and posed a serious problem to the ecosystem’s stability. To establish an efficient policy for sustainable development, it is crucial to encourage responsible production practices, notably the promotion of waste recycling in construction materials production. In this context, reusing dredged sediments has emerged as a promising alternative to non-renewable resources in construction material manufacturing. This paper reviews recent research on valorizing dredged sediment as an alternative raw material in brick and block production. Furthermore, the study examines the mechanical, thermal, and environmental performance of bricks and blocks incorporating dredged sediments. Additionally, future research guidance is proposed to address existing challenges and to support the sustainable valorization of dredged materials within the construction sector.
