Decent Work for Older Adults in South Korea: A Social Justice Perspective
This study used the concept mapping methodology to explore the perceptions of decent work among individuals aged 65 years and older from low socioeconomic backgrounds in South Korea. Nineteen participants were selected to represent a broader older population with income as the criterion. Through in-depth interviews and participant engagement in sorting and rating statements, this study revealed a perceptual structure of decent work, with nine clusters organized into three dimensions : Rewards, Well-being, and Integration. These findings extend the existing literature on decent work and the psychology of working theory, providing valuable theoretical insights and practical implications for enhancing counseling practices, informing policies, guiding education and training, and advancing theories on older adults’ work. This study underscores the importance of addressing systemic barriers and developing tailored interventions that reflect the specific needs and aspirations of older adults in the workforce.
