"Power behind Closed Doors: Custodial Violence, An Interdisciplinary Approach Contemporary To Institutional Culture and the Quest for Accountable Governance"
Abstract Interdisciplinary Approach for Research includes Law, Sociology, Psychology, History, Public Policy, Media Studies, etc. This speaks about the combination of tools and aspects from different sectors and fields that may lead to various innovative approaches in-order to prohibit and address custodial torture. If we take an example of legal studies and data science combinedly together can create a system to monitor and track those incidents where abuse of power committed behind closed doors. Development mostly emphasizes on including societies where justice and human rights are constitutive. Custodial violence erode social cohesion, governance legitimacy as well as public trust. Custodial violence had been mostly represented in movies, theatre, literature, and various visual arts and playing a very prominent role as a critique of state and violation of human rights. Plays on Court or documentaries on prison administration and conditions serve as cultural resistance, shaping public confabulation and creating awareness. It also create a connects to innovate in cultural reproduction, somewhere art become a tool for advocacy and equipment for creating reform. Custodial violence is a proven governance failure which is reflecting the issues such as systemic corruption, absence of checks, lack of control, and weak rule of law. Contemporary approach in governance finds institutional reforms to improve transparency and create accountability. Those agencies who are playing the role of watchdog agencies should increase their alertness, there should also be increase in the rate of judicial activism, and the things that affect the increasing rate of custodial violence should be enhanced. The effective implementation of international human rights norms at regional level is also similarly important. Interdisciplinary governance helps us to design several policies that protect human rights and increase public trust. There are too many scattered legislations provided in the procedural and penal laws in India but due to the absence of separate legislation we found that the rate of custodial violence is increasing day by day. India being the adversarial justice system nation and the signatory of UNCAT but had not ratified it. Hence separate legislation can only put a stoppage on increasing rate of Custodial Violence.
