The P-TECH Model: Secondary and Postsecondary Findings From an Evaluation in New York City

Pathways in technology early college high schools (P-TECHs) grade 9–14 provide a three-way partnership between a high school, a community college, and one or more employer partners. They allow students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and a free applied associate’s degree (AAS) in a STEM field aligned with the work of the employer partners. The schools provide access to dual enrollment, career and technical education courses, and work-based learning opportunities. This study provides the first rigorous evaluation of the model. Findings for high school outcomes, including dual enrollment and internship participation, as well as credit accumulation and high school graduation are provided. Postsecondary enrollment and degree attainment findings for 3 years past the end of expected high school graduation are also provided. Gender differences in outcomes are also discussed.
