Response to Najib (2025)

ABSTRACT The recent publication of an article on the 2024 riots in England is a symptom of anti‐Jewish racism in geography. It is problematic in three ways. Firstly, it associates White Supremacy with Zionism without defining either term, or recognising that Zionism emerged, in large part, as a response to White Supremacist oppression of Jews. Secondly, it builds its argument on age‐old racist conspiracy theories about secretive conspiracies by media‐controlling Jewish financiers to undermine societies worldwide. Thirdly, it misrepresents evidence and relies on social media posts by conspiracy theorists. The publication of this article is part of a wider tendency of geographers to indulge in anti‐Jewish racism, enabled by a failure of other geographers to identify and address it. This incident should serve as a point of reflection and change in academic geography.
