A new name for the later homonym Gladiolus pulcherrimus (G.J.Lewis) Goldblatt & J.C.Manning (Iridaceae)

The discovery of the existence of the earlier name Gladiolus pulcherrimus hort. ex Lémon (1832) for a plant cultivated in Paris renders the name G. pulcherrimus (G.J.Lewis) Goldblatt & J.C.Manning (1998) an illegitimate later homonym. The replacement name G. pulcher Goldblatt & J.C.Manning is provided here for this southern African taxon.

Abstract

The discovery of the existence of the earlier name Gladiolus pulcherrimus hort. ex Lémon (1832) for a plant cultivated in Paris renders the name G. pulcherrimus (G.J.Lewis) Goldblatt & J.C.Manning (1998) an illegitimate later homonym. The replacement name G. pulcher Goldblatt & J.C.Manning is provided here for this southern African taxon.
