Reflection of Gandhian Philosophy in R K Narayan's Waiting for Mahatma: A Study
Abstract Gandhian philosophy plays an important role in society and serves as a guiding principle for peaceful coexistence in India and across the world. Even after Gandhi’s death, his thoughts and philosophy remain relevant in addressing various social and political challenges. In the present world, which continues to face situations of war and violence, the significance of Gandhian philosophy has become even greater. R. K. Narayan, in his novel waiting for the Mahatma, depicts Gandhian philosophy and its influence on the people of India. The novel presents various Gandhian principles, including truth, non-violence, abolition of untouchability, and social harmony, and highlights their relevance to individual and social transformation.
