Submandibular odontogenic choristoma in a Boer goat

Abstract Submandibular odontogenic choristoma is a rare anomaly in both human and veterinary medicine. A case is described here in a Boer goat used for show, from which the benign growth was surgically removed without complication. This case documents the clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging and histopathology of this anomaly. Accurately classifying unique anomalous lesions is often a diagnostic dilemma in veterinary medicine due to paucity of descriptive reports and lack of understanding of the pathogenesis, resulting in heavy reliance on histomorphology and location. In this case, several differentials were considered, and their respective fit is discussed. Upon surgical removal, the goat recovered from surgery uneventfully, without the need for additional medical or surgical treatments.
