Hepatoprotective Influence of Linalool Against Imatinib-Induced Hepatic Injury In Balb/C Mice
Imatinib (IMTB), a first-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor, that is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia has however been implicated in hepatic injury. Linalool is a natural monoterpene alcohol with strong biologic antioxidant property. This study investigated the hepatoprotective potential of linalool against imatinib-induced toxicity in male BALB/c mice. 30 male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into five groups: I, control; II, olive oil (0.1ml olive oil); III, IMTB (400 mg/kg b.w.); IV, IMTB (400 mg/kg B.W.) + LN (40 mg/kg B.W.) simultaneously administered and V, LN (40 mg/kg b.w.). The result showed that simultaneous treatment with linalool significantly reduces AST, ALT and ALP activities compared to the IMTB group. Moreover, linalool abrogated IMTB-induced increase in advanced oxidation protein products and abated IMTB-facilitated surge decrease in total thiol levels and arylesterase activity. Additionally, linalool prevented pathological lesions and imatinib-induced necrotic influence in the liver of co-treated mice. Overall, linalool abrogative influence improved liver damage occasioned by IMTB-mediated toxicities in mice by alleviating oxidative stress resulting from imatinib administration.
